Honestly Tested for You: ColourPop’s “New Moon” Makeup Collection

Vampire shine on your lids, dramatic red on your lips: ColourPop’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” collection promises big-screen beauty and coveted fan packaging. But our test also revealed some clear flaws behind the pretty exterior. Here’s what you need to know about the standout textures and shades, where you may have to compromise, and which products suit your makeup preferences.
Between Movie Romance and Shimmering Makeup
ColourPop’s first Twilight collection caused a sensation, selling out in just ten minutes. The limited-edition New Moon collection brings the world of the films to life in ten products for eyes, lips, and body. Edward’s sparkling skin, the Volturi’s dark red cloaks, and the glow of an orange moon provide the color inspiration.
The selection combines matte, metallic, and pearlescent finishes. You can go for dramatic shimmer or mix and match different textures. You don’t have to be a die-hard Twilight fan to enjoy the rich colors. The film references add an emotional appeal, but what really matters is whether the pigmentation, application, and staying power hold up without the collector’s appeal.
Prices and Overall Verdict at a Glance
The full collection is listed at $125. The New Moon Eyeshadow Palette costs $24, and individual Super Shock Shadows are $9 each. A Multichrome Shadow Stix costs $12. The two Lip Liner & Lipstick duos are $16 each, the Runs with Vampires Lightweight Lip Gloss is $10, and the It's a Wolf Thing Glow Body Oil is $12.
Overall, the collection earns four out of five points. Strong pigmentation, creamy textures, and varied metallic finishes are among its biggest strengths. Points are deducted for several plastic packages that feel less than premium and for the lipsticks. Still, if makeup performance matters more to you than luxurious-feeling packaging, the overall verdict is positive.
New Moon Eyeshadow Palette: The Shimmering Centerpiece
This palette makes a statement before you even open it. The cover art is strikingly beautiful, while the binding and metallic clasp feel especially appealing for the $24 price. If you like displaying your favorite beauty products on your vanity instead of hiding them away in a drawer, this one may awaken your collector’s instincts.
The 15 shades impress, too: swatched on skin, they deliver rich, opaque pigmentation. The creamy formula makes it easy to create smooth transitions without noticeably settling into fine lines during our test. Since the shades work well together, you can experiment with different combinations without reaching for another palette for every look.
For the most intense color payoff, use a densely packed eyeshadow brush. Then soften the edges with a fluffier, looser brush. Applying the shadows with your fingers works, too. You can choose your preferred technique rather than being limited to just one by the formula.
Bloodsuckers: Two Eyeshadows with Dramatic Shimmer
The Bloodsuckers Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Set contains two Super Shock Shadows for a total of $15. Purchased separately, they cost $9 each, so you save $3 by buying the set. The film-inspired packaging and marbled finish of the shadows are eye-catching, though the plastic pots feel less luxurious.
The color payoff gives you plenty to love. The cream-to-powder formula leaves an intense shimmer on the skin. We Won't Bite has a green-gold effect and is our favorite from the test. The Volturi comes in a close second with its moody burgundy hue. You get two distinct color moods rather than two nearly identical shimmers.
You can apply them with your fingers or a brush. To pack on the color first and then soften the edges, use a dense brush for application and a fluffy brush for blending.
Love Triangle: Creamy Sticks That Do It All
The three Multichrome Shadow Stix in the Love Triangle Creamy Eyeshadow Stick Set cost $32 together. Compared with buying three individually at $12 each, you save $4. The plastic casings feel a little flimsy, but the twist-up format makes them easy to use. There’s no loose powder or stray glitter to deal with.
On the back of the hand, all three sticks show an opaque metallic sheen. It's Always Been Him shimmers green, Vampire Girl brings a burnt orange, and Wolf Girl goes for bronze. The creamy formulas blend easily. The green shade is the standout in our test, though the two warmer shades are just as impressive for shine.
Twist up the tip and apply it directly to your lid. You can use the color all over or draw a bold line. That flexibility—wearing them as eyeshadow or as a pop of color—is what makes the trio so versatile.
You Can't Trust Vampires: A Great Lip Liner, a Less Impressive Lipstick
The Volturi on the box make the You Can't Trust Vampires Lip Liner & Lipstick Set a true fan favorite. The lip products inside, however, receive mixed reviews. The lip liner impresses, while the lipstick’s plastic casing feels flimsy. For $16, then, this duo isn’t equally strong across the board.
The liner’s rich carmine red is a highlight. Its smooth formula glides comfortably over the lips and blends or smudges easily. The lipstick, by contrast, could be richer. Its claim to stay put for eight hours without transferring also doesn’t hold up in our test: color ends up on your straw and fades from the center of your lips.
Line your lips with the pencil and sharpen it as needed. Twist up the lipstick and apply as usual. If reliable staying power is especially important to you, keep our test results in mind.
Bella! Lip Duo: Fan Love Meets a Very Specific Shade
The Bella! Where the Hell Have You Been, Loca? Lip Liner & Lipstick Set nods to a memorable moment from the films in its name alone. Taylor Lautner’s face on the packaging adds to its collector appeal. The quality and formulas are similar to the other lip duo: a comfortable liner, a less impressive lipstick, and a rather flimsy plastic casing.
Here, it really comes down to your color preferences. In our test, the ashy undertones were not especially flattering and made the complexion look paler. If you tend to reach for chocolatey browns, take note of the difference. That doesn’t make the shade bad across the board, but it wasn’t a match for our personal preferences. Application is the same as with the red set.
It's a Wolf Thing: Golden Glow for the Body
For $12, the It's a Wolf Thing Glow Body Oil delivers an impressive shimmer. Its pump dispenser looks appealing and is easy to use. In our test, just two small pumps created a golden glow with fine glitter particles that reflect the light. It also has a sweet vanilla scent.
Apply two small pumps to your skin and massage in the oil. The effect is especially noticeable when your outfit leaves your arms or legs bare. If you’d rather add a radiant touch to your body than buy another eye product, this oil is an intriguing option in the collection.
Verdict: This Collection Is More Than Just Pretty Packaging
ColourPop pairs Twilight nostalgia with impressive eyeshadows, standout lip liners, and a striking body oil. The palette, Super Shock Shadows, and eyeshadow sticks are the collection’s highlights, combining intense color with comfortably creamy textures. The lipsticks and several plastic packages keep it from earning a perfect score.
Choose based on what matters most to you. If you love expressive eye looks, this collection has plenty to offer. If you expect luxurious packaging or a lipstick with reliably long wear, weigh your options carefully. Overall, it offers good value for money, plenty of movie magic, and a few honest flaws.
